Makurdi Flood: Mission To Makurdi By Adopt-A-Camp

Development, Stories 27/08/2017 by Akaafele

The downpour of August 27, 2017 flooded 24 communities in the Makurdi metropolis of Benue State, affecting 81,921 persons from 2,769 households, while submerging and/or impacting 1,574 houses. Although the water level in most areas receded within days, our baseline assessment revealed the need to support the victims through the unpalatable phase of displacement, and the sad experience of losing of properties, and livelihood. Thus, we launched #MissionToMakurdi.

It all started two weeks ago, I received a call from the most wonderful person I have ever met in my life my mentor CEO Adopt a camp Bukky Shonibare.

She heard about the flood situation and had seen my work so far in aiding and feeding flood victims so she wanted to also Mobilize a team and come down to Benue to bring succor to them. Then came “a mission to Makurdi“.

She raised over 5 million with contributions from good Nigerians. Other churches in Lagos also joined forces in buying relief materials massively worth more than 10 million Naira.

The mission to Makurdi was successful by Gods grace, they were able to reach out to over 5thousand households at Adeke, Achausa, Welfare quarters, Nyiman , Northbank, Gboko road, churches, pensioners affected and lastly IDP camp at Agan.

They spent 4 days doing distributions and medical outreach to families. They distributed money, food, mattress, male and female wears, blankets, soaps, pads, etc to every household. This was a trying moment for me mobilizing, organizing, and making sure every victim benefited from this.

This wouldn’t have been possible without my wonderful team, my family my father mum James Bumkeng Johnson T Bumkeng, Blessing, Terfa, Terver and many others.

To my squad who I called promptly but still decided to work with me Mrs. Sewuese Imandeh Josephine, Jenni KedraCollins Kajo and many others this wouldn’t have been possible without you guys and God bless you all.

To all the churches in Lagos that donated and even sent workers to aid distribution Global impact Church etc God in heaven reward you all.

I bless God for everything and hope to thank everyone and church that contributed.
