Three Lessons From MUTUK Online Management and Leadership Seminar

Development 5/05/2020 by Akaafele

I recently participated in the Online Leadership and Management Seminar that Dr Kohol Iornem, the President of Mzough U Tiv UK (MUTUK) initiated along with his Executive Management Committee.

The seminar, which was hosted using the Zoom App, was very interactive. Participants joined in from the United Kingdom and Nigeria to learn and share their respective opinions on the key topics.

Dr Kohol Iornem used the opening session to observe a-minute silence and prayed for the repose of the soul of Chief Mrs Martha Akiga, who was a very active member of MUTUK.

The speakers delivered incredible lessons and fused insights with their energetic, motivational delivery which left participants with both the will and the way to effect positive changes within their communities. Professor Gabriel Moti spoke on John Maxwell’s 15 Laws of Growth, Kevin Korgba presented on Conflict Management and Negotiation Skills and Professor Bruce Duncan lectured on the top ten mistakes leaders make.

Personally, the seminar achieved three things:

  • We gained more knowledge on the key topics that were discussed. This has helped me to build my self-confidence and wisdom. I have learnt valuable skills on how to manage and resolve conflict.
  • It was very timely considering the prolonged lockdown. As many are staying at home or working from home, we seized this excellent opportunity to develop ourselves and to network with one another as we had participants join in from different cities.
  • The participants (especially the diasporans) demonstrated their passion to making collective and individual contributions that could address poverty in Tivland and Benue as a whole.

I hope Dr Kohol Iornem will create another opportunity and extend such seminar to the councillors, chairmen, heads of parastatals and even leadership of Benue. If this is done, I believe the mindsets of many will change with respect to leadership, communication and conflict resolution and this will translate to a positive development of our dear state.

I live in Makurdi, Nigeria. I was privileged to have participated in that Management and Leadership Seminar.

I am pleased with the desire of our Tiv diaspora, especially MUTUK, to make their contribution to the development of Tiv land.

Developing management and leadership capacity is a key means of fast tracking development. I also implore MUTUK to create other opportunities for developing capacity for leaders in Tivland and Benue State.

    Congratulations MUTUK and thank you.
