NUBESS President Attends 19 Northern States National Presidents Conference
… Charges State Governments to pay Bursary to Students.
The National President, National Union of Benue State Students (NUBESS), Comr. Ajir Victor, GCBS 21st – 25th February, attended the conference of 19 Northern States National Presidents. The forum comprises Kano, kebbi, Kastina, sokoto, Kaduna, Jigawa, Benue, Adamawa, Niger, Borno, Bauchi, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Taraba, Yobe, Plateau, Gombe and Zamfara States. With an aim to foster unity of purpose and committed to the mainstreaming of students and young leaders in governance, the student leaders campaigned for free and quality education for all Students within Northern Nigeria and beyond.
The Conference held at Top Rank Hotel, Abuja also discussed other challenges faced by Northern Students and Nigerian Students at large including the ASUU Strike, Banditry, Kidnapping, Rituals, and Cultism.
The NUBESS President during the conference called on the government of Benue State to rise up and pay Benue State Students bursary allowances while condemning the 500 nairas Collected by the Benue state scholarship board for Bursary application and which has not been paid.
The forum also met with some relevant stakeholders in the education sector and unanimously spoke against the ongoing ASUU Strike, calling on the Government and the leadership of ASUU to settle their differences and end the strike for Students to return back to class.
The conference ended with the hope of meeting again to collate views and reports to further actions that would continue to benefit students in the region.
