“This Feat” Is Not A Defeat! – Tarkighir

Leadership, Stories 4/10/2018 by Rt Hon Dickson Tarkighir

I Thank You All, Our People, Our Delegates And Our Leaders

Over 3 years ago, the good people of Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency gave me the greatest honour there is to give at that level – to send me to represent them in the House of Representatives. It is an honour for which I will forever remain grateful.

I have sponsored bills and motions with the focus to addressing our community and our national issues. And so, especially in the remainder of the 4 year mandate I was given, I shall not relent one bit to offer these people, my people, the representation they deserve.

This is why, in all of the period I am exercising this privilege and mandate, I have dedicated myself to the pursuit of advancing the concerns of our people, of our constituency, by soaring our employment placements in federal parastatals, by growing the talent levels of our constituents through skill acquisition, by ensuring a wide reach of healthcare facilities to remote parts of the constituency; through provision of water, bridges, roads, electric transformers, classroom blocks as well as voicing their misfortunes in the hands of killer herdsmen. I have sponsored bills and motions with the focus to addressing our community and our national issues. And so, especially in the remainder of the 4 year mandate I was given, I shall not relent one bit to offer these people, my people, the representation they deserve. I was working for the mandate I was given not for a future mandate as I always believed that when such a time arrives to decide in whose hands a future mandate will be trusted, our people shall decide what is best for them and they will be right regardless of who they would choose to represent them. This has been my disposition.

I am grateful to our party leaders and especially to the Governor of the State Dr Samuel Ortom for ensuring that we had a peaceful, free and fair nomination process.

And therefore, today, the delegates of my political party the People’s Democratic Party from Makurdi and Guma Local Government voted amongst several aspirants including my humble self in a free, fair and transparent exercise to pick a flag bearer for our party in the forthcoming House of Reps election for Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency. Our delegates, in the exercise of their rights, chose my constituent and fellow aspirant Hon Bem Mzondu ahead of the rest of us in the contest. I congratulate him over his victory.

Thank my lovely wife, our children, our family and friends for all of the support while on this journey. I am truly indebted to you.

My humble self-placed second and for this, I am grateful to our delegates who have travelled from all corners of the constituency in order to nominate one of us. I am grateful to our party leaders and especially to the Governor of the State Dr Samuel Ortom for ensuring that we had a peaceful, free and fair nomination process. This speaks volumes of the promise that the PDP holds in the lives of the Benue people and the people of Nigeria – that we would commit to transparency in our dealings with our members and with Nigerians.

Finally, I like to thank my lovely wife, our children, our family and friends for all of the support while on this journey. I am truly indebted to you. And while I wait earnestly for resumption back to the House of Representatives to complete the term I was elected for, I return thanks to God for finding me worthy of representing our people and I promise that in this last 8 months of this 4 year term, we would witness even more positives as a constituency as I see out the final phase of the mandate I was privileged and honoured with.

Thank you so much. For as long as I live, I will never forget the generous gesture of our people. I pray that in the end, looking back, I would have done them proud because our people deserve nothing less. Thank you and thank you so much.
