“I don’t know how to relate with a Mother because you made me your friend and Twin” – Lauretta

Remembrance, Stories 5/10/2018 by Lauretta Aondoanase Asagh Aondoana-Ikyaagba

My Twin Sister, I met you 30 years ago when I jumped out of a mini prison at 7 months precisely on the 10th of May 1988 (10-05-1988).

You’ve been my friend for thirty years, you know me more than I even know myself, you see my tears even in the rain, you notice my pain in every fake smile, you held my hands through the darkest moments of my life, I can’t forget, we have laughed, cried, rejoiced, celebrated, failed and won together.

Sometimes I forget that you’re my Mum, I don’t know how to relate with a Mother because you made me your friend and Twin.

You’re my number one fan and I’m your star, you give me even the credit I don’t deserve, you sacrificed golden opportunities to make us comfortable, sometimes I forget that you’re my Mum, I don’t know how to relate with a Mother because you made me your friend and Twin, lying to you is not even possible, you see the truth before I even say anything, it’s so painful because most times I just don’t want you to know anything, I love you regardless, thank you for saying NO to my excesses, you’ve made conscious efforts to make us responsible, I hope we’ve made you proud so far, you sometimes forget that we are adults but who are we to complain, we love the attention you give each and every one of us, I’m still angry that you changed my name on your phone from BabyLove to Mrs (inserts sentence).

It’s painful mehn, I’m glad we’ve built very powerful memories that will last a century, I’m grateful to my Dad for blessing us with a golden heart and priceless jewel as a Mum,he really thought of us when he chose you as a wife, God bless him, I want to thank you especially for believing in me even when it was very difficult, you gave me strength to bounce back and become a better me, you stood up for me when I was voiceless, I can’t even itemize all you’ve done cos even a book won’t tell it all, I’ve prayed to God to keep you stronger and better for us, May you live to see our children’s children.

Thank you for laying my spiritual foundation, you keep reminding us how we are nothing without God and that has shaped our reasoning, this legacy is priceless.
