Hit the Road for the Benue Breast Cancer Survivors Support Group (BBCSSG) Virtual 5km Race

Health, Stories 30/09/2020 by Events

In commemoration of World Breast Cancer Awareness Month (1st -31st October every year)

The Breast Cancer Awareness Month, marked in countries across the world every October, helps to increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease.

The Benue State Breast Cancer Survivors Support group also joins efforts in the celebration of this month with varying activities and projects. In the past the group has organized in person campaigns in different cities and held symposia as part of the interventions. This year, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have decided to transform our single day event into a month-long virtual event.

The BBCSSG Virtual 5k Walk is a walk with a purpose. It aims to raise funds and support for BBCSSG, a non-profit group whose mission is to assist the citizens of Benue State in achieving sustainable healthcare via screening, public education /awareness creation for prevention and also how to cope with life after the disease.  Proceeds from this walk will go towards supporting ongoing projects of the group in Benue State.

Participants may run/walk 5km on their own at any venue of their choice, snap and send a picture on the BBCSSG Facebook page.  There will be no ranked prices, given the difficulty of determining 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. However, participants will be automatically entered in a raffle to win any of 5 prizes: One Night Stay at any Royal Choice Hotels in Abuja, Benin, Makurdi or Zaria from November 1-10.

Registration: Visit Facebook group with the link below for registration form.

Dates: October 1-30, 2020 culminating with a virtual symposium to be streamed on October 31

Fee: NGN 2000

Please kindly like the Facebook page and also send a photo of your best time running or walking (5k/3.1 mi).  Upload on our Facebook page should be from 1st -30th October 2020. To monitor your walk /run, you can use your Fitbit app or download an app that can track your walk/run.

Thank you so much for supporting BBCSSG! We look forward to seeing everyone get fit in the month of October while supporting a worthy cause!
