… I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore CHOOSE life that both thou and thy seed may live. Deuteronomy 30:19

Often times when someone has fallen short not only of God’s glory now but of the virtues of society, he or she is quick to blurt out “I didn’t have a choice” but that is a blatant lie!

Above is a verse of the Good book I decided to quote to help us understand this mystery of choice. Even God who created you and me, who created the entire universe cannot coerce us to be of service to him. If you read the chapters that precede this verse and many other chapters I cannot quote now (forgive me for being a poor student of the Bible), it becomes very clear to you that after we were created, we were given a will. A will that even God the creator does not influence because if he did then we all will be God worshippers, no pagans, no atheists, no Muslims, no Buddhists, no Marmon, no nothing but all God worshippers in the purest form! Even Israel of old, God’s chosen people could not be compelled to worship God and God alone and not stray but you and I will agree that the Israelites indeed let God down at every turn of the corner. What you and I still do up till date in our deeds and even thoughts.

Do not misquote me some of these religions I have mentioned worship God too but variations of Him.

What I am saying in essence is that we have been given that free will to choose between right and wrong, good and bad, virtue and vice BUT have been advised to choose right, to go the way of virtue so why not rise above yourself and choose that which is right not only to man but to God.

Most of the times when we blurt out “I didn’t have a choice” or “it was my only option”, I want us to take a moment and think it through, analyze whatever situation it is we have found ourselves in then you will agree with me that indeed you did have a choice and that it was not your only option but you had conditioned your mind so and CHOSEN to go the way you did for a number of reasons… at least be truthful to yourself and own up to the choice you made (you can lie to everyone else but to yourself? Grow up!)

I’ll give you typical examples common in our society today:

A boy or girl leaves home for school or work in the city and finds out that there’s more to life than he or she was previously exposed to but of a truth, his or her parents cannot and will not support this new life style of affluence he or she has so come to now love… well not because they do not want to but because they cannot afford to. What does he or she do? Isn’t the answer obvious? Guys!

He finds for himself a new crop of friends, a new family that specializes in terrorizing and disturbing the peace of society but you and I in lay terms will say he has joined a cult and for the girl? Well she becomes an automated sex machine “ASM” or simply put a “big girl”, a “runs girl”… a glorified prostitute to call a spade a spade and not a big spoon!

Will you say these individuals didn’t have a choice but to go the way they decided was best for them? NO! NO! NO!

I’ll refer you to the Good book again Ecclesiastes tell us there is a time for everything so if now is not your time, there’s no forcing it. You may force it and feel good at the moment but trust me when the repercussions come knocking? You will not be able to handle it. A lot of destinies are wasted because of the unguided choices we make because of pressures – call it peer pressure if you may – we subject ourselves to unnecessarily. Have you not heard that if your right hand causes you to sin you should cut it off? Why hang around somebody who robs off on you in every negative way there is possible? Why be friends with someone whom you are not comfortable around because you feel you do not measure up? Why get involved in things even you know are not right but because it gives you some sort of clout and everyone else is doing and says it is okay, you wantonly go ahead?

If you didn’t know any better then I’ll be glad to break it to you that because everybody says it is okay does not make it okay! And you and you alone are responsible for your actions that are guided by your choices. Yes it may affect those around but you bear the full brunt and there are no two ways about it… So do yourself a favor today and make the right choice so you do not bite your finger, gnash your teeth and shake your head in regret tomorrow when it may be too late to turn a new leaf and start afresh.

Great in counsel and mighty in work: For thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings Jeremiah 32:19

Now if any man builds upon this foundation (Jesus Christ) gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is

If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward 1 Corinthians 3:12-14

The choice is yours…
